I have been wanting a cover for our comforter for a while now, but the ones I love are always out of my (non-existent) budget. I snatched up a plain white duvet cover on sale for $19! I cut up some jersey knit sheets, ruffled them and then sewed them on the duvet cover 4.5 inches apart. Voila, a new duvet cover! Our bed is a queen, but I hate how queen size blankets never cover our mattress. So I bought a king size and cut it down just a bit so that it is the perfect size to cover the ugliness. It is so soft, comfy, wonderful and the perfect size.

ReplyDeleteHi there! I don't see an email address so sorry for the long comment/inquiry! I am just about to attempt this project and wondered two things:
ReplyDeleteDid you have to rip open the seams on the purchased duvet in order to sew the ruffles on? If not, how did you manage it?
Also, how wide were your fabric strips for the ruffles? THanks so much!!
